The image was reconstructed from all-sky data collected by ESA’s Gaia mission, a groundbreaking space observatory mapping the positions, brightness, distances, and motions of nearly two billion stars. Rather than being a traditional photograph, this artwork is a data-driven reconstruction of the visible Milky Way, created through a dedicated processing workflow developed by Adam Jesionkiewicz.
