Opis

The Moon underexposed on purpose. Smaller aperture, deeper shadows, more character. April 6, 2026. Early in the seven-hour lunar flyby observation period, one of the Artemis II crew made a deliberate choice: shoot with a smaller aperture. Less light in, more contrast out. The result is a darker, heavier version of the Moon than the typical flyby images, with shadows that swallow the surface detail and highlights that barely hold on. This is what happens when an astronaut stops documenting and starts composing. Same Moon, same orbit, same camera. Different intent. This image retains its original framing as captured aboard Orion. The visible grain and the deep shadows are both intentional results of the chosen exposure settings. We keep it exactly as shot. Photo: NASA / Artemis II, Lunar Fly
