Earth hangs tiny in the blackness of space off the Moon's illuminated limb, a small crescent with sunlight catching its right edge. The Moon dominates the frame. This panoramic composition reveals nearly the full scale of Orientale mare basin across the lower third of the lunar surface, its dark floor of cooled lava still showing different colors that hint at mineral composition. The outer rings of mountains are clearly defined. Above Orientale, lines of secondary crater chains mark the surface, debris trails from a massive ancient impact.
