Opis

The far side of the Moon at 400mm, handheld from Orion. April 6, 2026. During the lunar flyby, the Artemis II crew shot this close-up of Vavilov Crater, sitting on the rim of the much older and larger Hertzsprung basin. Handheld, 400mm focal length, from inside a spacecraft passing over terrain almost no human has ever seen directly. Long shadows at the terminator, the line between lunar day and night, carve out every detail. On the right side of the frame, smooth material within an inner ring of mountains transitions into rugged, chaotic terrain around the rim. Craters and their ejecta blankets become almost three-dimensional in this raking light. This is geology you can read from the shadows alone. Vavilov sits entirely on the far side. It doesn't face Earth. You won't find this view fro
