As Orion approached the far side of the Moon, just before all contact with Earth went silent, the Artemis II crew captured this: a crescent Earth sinking behind the lunar limb. Australia and Oceania are lit by daylight on the right. The rest of the planet is in darkness. In the foreground, the Ohm crater dominates the lunar surface with its terraced edges, flat floor, and central peaks formed when the Moon's crust liquefied on impact and splashed upward. The edge of the Moon's visible surface, the lunar limb, appears as a sharp circular arc against the black of space.
